Your Talents are Needed!

As a member you become an Active Participant and join a number of other professional nurses who recognize the service that NYBNA provides to the African American community through its many health care services and out reach programs. New York Black Nurses Association is as strong as its members are active. Its many programs and accomplishments are possible thanks to member’s interest and volunteer committee work.

Members are encouraged to attend and participate in regular general membership meetings. In addition, members are urged to work on at least one committee and participate in community service.
Our accomplishments are many but much remains to be done.

How can you get involved

  • NYBNA was a lead sponsor of Thrive NYC’s Mental Health First Aid Initiative
  • Health Screenings and Health Education in New York City
  • Career Day Participation in Public Schools
  • NYBNA’s Adopted School Support students and parents at P.S. 121 in Bx, NY.
  • Partnership with Dormitory Authority
  • Partnership with Harlem Mothers SAVE (Stop Another Violent End)
  • Mentoring Nursing Students
  • Tutoring Nursing Students
  • Participate in Food, Clothing and Toy Drives

Which committee would you like to serve on?

  • Health Policy: Share health policy information with chapter to bring awareness of current legislative and health care issues. Identify collaborative opportunities at local, national level and NBNA advisement.  
  • Violence Reduction: address issues related to violence  and identify collaborative opportunities at local, national level and NBNA advisement.
  • Nomination: Forms slate for annual election of officers and board members.
  • Membership: Recruits and maintains up to date rosters and membership records.
  • Fund-raising: Plans activities to raise funds for he ongoing programs and activities.
  • Scholarship: Raises funds for scholarship; evaluates candidate applications and awards recipients.
  • Newsletter: Designs newsletter, collects and edits material, oversees printing and mailing.
  • Website and Publicity: Manage social media platforms
